I have a boat load of entries {50+} lined up  to unleash on this dear sweet blog.

My blog asks for nothing in return.

It never begs for more.

It doesnt warble when I load it unlimited.

It loves me unconditionally.

I have been to busy photographing to keep up with it.

Seems like I need to add an employee just to blog!

With that said here are a few samples of whats to come.

If you are an avid reader, I hope I have not let you down. Perhaps you love me unconditionally too! :=)

Our website is still in the final stages of being finished but you can check it here if you wish 🙂 Grand Rapids Photographer

Just to give a little update on how the website rebuild is going. If you have been following along the site has grown incredibly in the last 2 days. I finally got the past images to load…thanks tons to Jamie from Color Splash for the awesome wordpress plugin from Velvet Blues called UPDATE URLs. I certainly dont want to geek out here but all the “paths” for my images were spelled out a certain way from the old blog…the needed a new “path”…written one by one….which if you take into the account I have been blogging since 2006 you would realize its over 2500 images….I was need deep in changing every image one by one. But thanks to the pluggin it worked like a charm in about 1.5 seconds!

We also spent some time re-uploading all of our gallery proofing. This took a few days but I am happy to say everything is back up! So if your gallery is not expired go look at them now 🙂

Also, just to inform you, in the move I lost all of my blog posts from the last of April until now…so I am going to be blogging a whole summers worth of sessions and weddings through the next few months. I will try not to overwhelm and do 2 a day for a while.

I would like to personally thank Darryl from intothedarkroom for his patience and his clear understanding of web building. Also the host site, site5 for  getting us back online as soon as they could.

The only things left are the galleries that will be permanently online for showing off your images 🙂 I am in the process of going through terabytes of images to put up. It is a incredible reminder to all of you great clients how lucky I am to know each of you and get to photograph you. Thank you.

Jenny & Aaron & I met downtown Grand Rapids for some engagement pictures on a sunny April day. With no plan, we set out….I love no plan 🙂

Rock on! See you in a few months for the wedding!

Hi Everyone! I am getting excited for our workshop and thought I would share with you a few exciting things that are in the works.
  • This will be a business building seminar/workshop. We will discuss everything related to your business and how to help make it better, more profitable and have a business you run instead of a business that runs you.
  • Are you getting the clients you want? How to get clients in the door. How to keep them.
  • Are your clients choosing you based on your price or your style?
  • How to set up packages to increase profits.
  • How to keep a balance between your business and your home life.
  • Survive the off season
  • Gain more time and learn from my mistakes
  • Weddings, Seniors and Families.
*We will finish with a “roundtable” discussion with special guests Ben and Mindy Peterson, Ben and Laura Harrison and from the outside looking in Color Inc. owner Tim Kasburger. This will be the time to get to know a bit more about the industry from all angles. From our different types of styles of photography to a lab owner who sees the trends and purchasing habits of the very clients you are trying to sell to.
This will be a fun, humorous  and informative workshop. I have been in the business for 15 full years and have seen lots of trends, lots of styles, lots of crazies and a lot of great times. Its how you handle all of those times that keep your business above the rest and keep your reputation and demand in good check.
  • A small list of people and companies who have been in my viewfinder:
George Bush
Gerald Ford
LeAnn Rimes
Rich DeVos
Wynton Marsalis
Grand Rapids Art Museum
Herman Miller
University of Michigan
Chicago Times
and countless people who have trusted me to document their lives famous or not.
  • It looks like the workshop will be April 17. We are finalizing details on location, but it looks like we will be Downtown Grand Rapids.
The cost is $750
There will be more information to follow.
Thanks everyone!

I have been a photographer for 15 years. I have been using photoshop since it was 2.0. That is quite a while. I am amazed every day at what the human mind takes in. Once you think you have seen it all, done it all, something comes along and floors you. This is with anything the human race accomplishes. Look at your screen. Is it incredible that it is all zeros and ones? I remember when I first had a computer hooked to the phone line. It must have been 1994. That terrible sound it made while connecting. The slow as molasses connection was incredible to wait for. We knew no different! The very first thing I searched for was Tom Waits. I was big into him at the time and wanted more info.

When I was younger I remember growing up listening to vinyl records. To this day we have 3 record players in the house. I have passed it onto our children, they themselves have their own collections of the beautiful black circle.

I remember reading comic books too. Well, I tried. I used to get all caught up in the pictures. Suddenly my mind would tell its own story while I was turning each page. I think I am ADD. I can count on my two hands the amount of books I have read from start to finish. Not a very proud statement really, just more of the truth 🙂 Not to say I don’t read either, I do…just rarely get all the way through a book without skimming. Needless to say the images from comics has always moved me.

Here are a few of my adventures. A few of our engaged couples this year and few from last year.

Have a stop by our main website Dusty Brown

We met out at Johnson Park in Grandville to get some photos of them snow shoeing and enjoying the winter wonderland that is Michigan in February. Notice the collage photo and in the 3rd frame of it you can see exactly what Melissa is thinking….TRIP! After the winter session we headed over to their house to warm up with adult beverages and a new change of clothes 🙂 Heading out downtown Grand rapids for more engagement photos we made our way around town and ended up at Big O’s cafe for an excellent meal and great conversation. Way excited for the wedding at Snow Moon Ranch later this year!
