Hi Everyone! I am getting excited for our workshop and thought I would share with you a few exciting things that are in the works.
  • This will be a business building seminar/workshop. We will discuss everything related to your business and how to help make it better, more profitable and have a business you run instead of a business that runs you.
  • Are you getting the clients you want? How to get clients in the door. How to keep them.
  • Are your clients choosing you based on your price or your style?
  • How to set up packages to increase profits.
  • How to keep a balance between your business and your home life.
  • Survive the off season
  • Gain more time and learn from my mistakes
  • Weddings, Seniors and Families.
*We will finish with a “roundtable” discussion with special guests Ben and Mindy Peterson, Ben and Laura Harrison and from the outside looking in Color Inc. owner Tim Kasburger. This will be the time to get to know a bit more about the industry from all angles. From our different types of styles of photography to a lab owner who sees the trends and purchasing habits of the very clients you are trying to sell to.
This will be a fun, humorous  and informative workshop. I have been in the business for 15 full years and have seen lots of trends, lots of styles, lots of crazies and a lot of great times. Its how you handle all of those times that keep your business above the rest and keep your reputation and demand in good check.
  • A small list of people and companies who have been in my viewfinder:
Sting
George Bush
Gerald Ford
LeAnn Rimes
Rich DeVos
Wynton Marsalis
Amway
Steelcase
Grand Rapids Art Museum
Wolverine
Herman Miller
University of Michigan
Chicago Times
Whirlpool
and countless people who have trusted me to document their lives famous or not.
  • It looks like the workshop will be April 17. We are finalizing details on location, but it looks like we will be Downtown Grand Rapids.
The cost is $750
There will be more information to follow.
Thanks everyone!

I have been a photographer for 15 years. I have been using photoshop since it was 2.0. That is quite a while. I am amazed every day at what the human mind takes in. Once you think you have seen it all, done it all, something comes along and floors you. This is with anything the human race accomplishes. Look at your screen. Is it incredible that it is all zeros and ones? I remember when I first had a computer hooked to the phone line. It must have been 1994. That terrible sound it made while connecting. The slow as molasses connection was incredible to wait for. We knew no different! The very first thing I searched for was Tom Waits. I was big into him at the time and wanted more info.

When I was younger I remember growing up listening to vinyl records. To this day we have 3 record players in the house. I have passed it onto our children, they themselves have their own collections of the beautiful black circle.

I remember reading comic books too. Well, I tried. I used to get all caught up in the pictures. Suddenly my mind would tell its own story while I was turning each page. I think I am ADD. I can count on my two hands the amount of books I have read from start to finish. Not a very proud statement really, just more of the truth :-) Not to say I don’t read either, I do…just rarely get all the way through a book without skimming. Needless to say the images from comics has always moved me.

Here are a few of my adventures. A few of our engaged couples this year and few from last year.

“d booth”  (pronounced duh booth) is our version of a Photo Booth at a wedding. Irt’s amazing what a few hats and sunglass and perhaps an adult beverage or two can do to a wedding party! These are from the great wedding of Krista and Mark last year. Such a blast!

Bailey and Eric were married last weekend at Fountain Street Church. A Fountain Street Church Wedding is always fantastic! The church is such a beautiful site. {See photos :-) }

After the wedding we headed out to Blythefield Country Club for the wedding reception. It was a beautiful October day and the Country Club setting was terrific for the party!

Congrats Eric and Bailey!

Ann and Jason were married this past weekend in Kalamazoo at the Kalamazoo Nature Center.  The nature center was the perfect place for them. Ann and I have known each other for a few years now, she helps build playgrounds for urban city kids and I photograph the event. ( Here is a time lapse I did of a recent event.) Such a great day for you both. Thanks so much for having me be part of your fantastic, laid back, peaceful and loving day! The party was at the Union Cabaret & Grill. Very cool place and fantastic service and food. Enjoy :-)

Bonsai and pinwheels too!

Krista and Mark were married on Saturday at the Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church out in Holland.  The reception was out at the Laketown Center in Saugutuck {Kristas vision was fantastic and her mother and Sharon made it a reality} . From the moment I arrived at Krista’ parents house for the get ready photos until the end of our dbooth photos at the end of the night, this day was fantastic!

Thanks go out to all of the families and guests for making Amy and I feel so welcome. The 5 vintage cars were just a piece of the puzzle. Check out some of these images. More to come of dbooth, stay tuned for the crazies on that post!

Congrats Krista and Mark!

love this! her mom is peeking out at her husband and daughter who are just about to enter the wedding. Krista’s dad drove her right up to the church and she walked in and got married. Very cool! No waiting around, just drive up and walk in :-)

The loudest exit I have ever been a part of! All the guests had noise makers and whistlers…very very fun!

Krista’s goal was for everyone to have fun on her and Marks wedding day. They did! In between the wedding and party they gave all the guests $5 to go to the Peanut Store in Holland fo some candy and shopping. The place was packed! From the party favors to the candy store and on to the party (which looked incredible!) and up to the dbooth….these guests had a great time! I did too, thanks Krista and Mark!
